Credit law repair scam complaints cause Florida’s Attorney General to issue warning to citizens, anticipating even more credit (dis)repair complaints with desperate people latching on to these (dis)repair companies’ ridiculous claims and guarantees.
Florida’s Attorney General Bill McCollum notices an alarming trend!
Credit (DIS)Repair Companies are screwing people at a more alarming rate!
McCollum’s office continues receiving many more complaints this year than last year.
Worse, Florida AG McCollum believes the worse is yet to come. “As Floridians turn to debt relief organizations for help, an increasing number of these companies are taking advantage of the nationwide financial situation and defrauding consumers.”
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the AG will continue aggressively pursuing companies and individuals who are preying on our consumers in their times of desperation.
Absolutely Do NOT Fall For This
Common & Dangerous Scam Pitched
By Credit (Dis)Repair Scammers! Some credit or debt repair schemes offer to “hide” bad credit by helping consumers establish a new credit identity. The company may direct the consumer to apply for an Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the Internal Revenue Service, and to use the EIN in place of his or her Social Security number when applying for credit. This practice, known as file segregation, is a federal crime.
Other common complaints include:
- “…Guaranteed point increase!”
- “They promised to delete all the bad off my reports!”
- “They told me they could delete my bankruptcy so I could buy a home….”
- “I had to give them $349.00 upfront and they wouldn’t return my calls.”
- “I hired a credit repair company that claimed to be full of lawyers. They were horrible and I was never allowed to speak with one of these so-called lawyers. What a horrible scam.”
- “My credit repair company never let me know what they were doing. Every time I asked they told me it was their proprietary program…that I would be very pleased with the results. What results? Are they talking about my scores being lower than when I hired them? Am I supposed to be happy with lower scores?”
These are desperate times for people as 100′s of 1,000s of people lose their jobs, their homes, their credit & their better sense.
When I’m under stress and desperate for help, I’ve been known to overlook better judgment…and that screws me every single (damn) time.
Please do not fall for these legitimate (LOOKING) companies preying on your urgency.
What should you do?

- Demand the credit repair company explain exactly how they plan to help you, based on your specific credit issues.
