Beware fake FACEBOOK email claiming Facebook changed your password as a security measure to protect “you.” Especially do NOT open official-looking email attachments.
Do NOT Click On Official-Looking Email Attachments! You Might Double-Click On More Trouble Than You Care To Get...
DON’T DO IT!
Facebook will NOT randomly change your password for you. Please don’t flood me with emails on this topic…and I say this with all respect. I am NOT Facebook…or your bank….or any other website claiming to need to change your password to “protect you.”
My advice:
- NEVER open attachments from strangers…regardless of how official they look.
- CONTACT the source if you’re in doubt. For instance, call your bank and verify the email you received from your bank asking you to do something “fishy” really is an email (and LINK) from your bank. Don’t just click away.
- NEVER…ever…ever…NEVER forward a “funny” or “inspiring” or devotional” email to your entire Address Book using TO: or Cc: — If you feel you must forward emails, ONLY use Bcc: (that is, “blind copy”). Don’t expose your entire address book (and their trusted emails including mine) to strangers.
Are you aware scammers/spammers/and identity thieves commonly create these kinds of inspiring, devotional & funny emails just to get you to forward them — so they can HARVEST email addresses and send this kind of FACEBOOK email later on? Believe me, right now as you scan this very email 1,000s are opening the attached zip file attached to that fake Facebook email…….
If you have something to share about this type of email, scroll down to the Comment box below. Don’t worry, you don’t have to double-click to leave a comment
If you think your friends, family & co-workers will benefit from this warning, let them know now!
To warn your friends who are too trusting and click-happy:
1. Click the “RE-TWEET” icon at the top right of this post.
2. Click the “Tell & Share” button below. You SAFELY can warn your friends WITHOUT exposing their emails to strangers (including me). Don’t forget, I AM a stranger to you and you should not send ME your entire address book either when you forward those joke emails you receive.
Facebook is so popular that 1,000’s WILL execute the zip file…you can bet on it. I have no clue what’s zipped in that file. You know what, I won’t find out, because I’m NOT opening it. Even if it turned out to be legit, I wouldn’t open a similar email later. Once you get your butt run through the wringer called Identity Theft, you get a little more cautious.
