“HELP! Please, I need your help…and FAST! I have an old account with AMEX that went delinquent in 2001…about $2567.00 + 4 or 5 hundred dollars in late fees.

This is what I recall the last time I looked…years ago. I opened the account in Florida, that’s where I live outside of Tampa. I lost my job and couldn’t pay. I tried to set up a payment plan with them, but they always demanded the full amount. For about a year, I got calls all the time from debt collectors. The calls would come for a couple months…heavy…and then I’d get nothing for a few months and then again the calls would come.

But then the calls stopped all together, until recently. The other day I get a letter in the mail saying I owe something like $5,000…$5179.00…something crazy like that.

They offered to settle for 50% of what they said I owe…around $2500. I’m back to work now, I can pay it off. I don’t know what to do. I’m not a deadbeat, even though it kinda looks that way.

I just want them off my back for good. They told me to fax them the signed authorization settlement letter that includes my name, fax number & some other stuff about authorizing AMEX to send a settlement letter for payment of balance due on Oct. 30, 20xx.

What should I do? I want them off of my back…forever!
