THE FIGHT
The other night, I was playing “tackle & tickle” with my two kids, something they and I love to do. Suddenly, my cell phone rang.
Only people close to me have that number, so I instinctively called “time out” to answer the phone.
At the other end was this person who could barely speak English, telling me I had just been chosen to receive a special gift. Obviously, I am not used to getting “pitch” calls since my family does not (and has not for years) had a land-line phone.
I was slow catching on to this unsolicited “pitch”.
When it hit me I had received a “pitch” call on my cell phone, I was angry. I stopped playing with my kids for this? I don’t think so.
I politely (and believe me when I say it was tough for me to be polite) cut off the lady who was struggling to read some script about some “special gift” she wanted to “award” me. “…award me” Yeah right. And I just dropped off some turnip truck too. Forget your friggin’ gift. Get off my damn phone…and stay off!
It’s Official…The Telemarketers Got My “Number”!
My cell phone began ringing with similar “pitch” calls. What the hell was going on? I couldn’t figure it out. I *thought* cell phones were immune from telemarketers.
My dinner time was interrupted.
My business meetings were interrupted.
My sleep was disturbed with calls late at night.
And my special time with my two kids was interrupted. That was not cool. As with many of you, I don’t get to spend as much time with my kids as I’d like. To steal time from my kids and me is not cool…not cool at all. Enough is enough.
When the calls increased instead of stopping, I was over this crap.
It Was Time To ZAP Those Annoying Telemarketers!
I set out to find out what had happened, somehow allowing telemarketers to STEAL my minutes and INTERRUPT my family time.
Since my family does not use a “landline” phone, this was new to us. We had freed ourselves from the “cord” years ago. We despise–no, let me be blunt; we HATE–telemarketers’ unsolicited calls.
For years, we almost had forgotten how angry we’d get with those unsolicited calls, even the scammers pretending to call on behalf of some “Police Benevolent Fund.”
**NOTE** Right now, I won’t get distracted with this, but the “police” deserving of the money you donate only receive pennies of your donation through these telemarketing firms. If you want to donate to the police fund, do it directly. Forget the telemarketers pretending to be police officers calling you for ($$) help.
Here’s what happened. On June 17, 2008, your cell phone number LOST its protection from annoying telemarketers. Once sacred, your cell phone MINUTES are in the hands of telemarketers…and they’re rubbing their hands together, knowing few people will know that the protection expired.
Okay, so you don’t want to donate to their cause? …you don’t want to buy their widget? …you don’t want to lose precious minutes during dinner, a business meeting or family time?
And you certainly do not want to lose your cell phone minutes to telemarketers. Okay, here’s what you do.
